Creation: Appeared in 1983 running from TN 56 north of Smithville to US 70 west of Smithville. This is the 3rd TN 83.
| Adjustments: In 1995 or 1996, TN 83 was extended to TN 146 near Bluhmtown. Between 2003-2006, TN 83 was rerouted at the US 70 area onto new construction to make a continuous TN 83 movement. Up to then TN 83 used Tiger Dr, a bit of US 70 and Old Snow Hill Rd. Posting: Posted as secondary routing everywhere. Secret US Route Overlay: None Comment: serves as bypass routing on the west and north sides of Smithville.

TN 83 #1: Appeared in 1927 or 1928 as new routing running from US 11 (now TN 74) Cleveland to TN 58 above Georgetown.
In 1939, TN 83 was renumbered as part of TN 60. Today TN 83's route is 1st St NW, Inman St, a bit of TN 312, Georgetwon Rd NW; TN 60 to about Paul Huff Pkwy; Candles Creek Ridge Rd and Old Georgetown Rd; TN 60, TN 306, another Old Georgetown Rd; TN 60 to TN 58 except for an abandoned looping alignment east of TN 60 a little north of Mt. Zion Rd.
TN 83 #2: Appeared in Memphis in the mid 1960s running on Danny Thomas Blvd and North Parkway in an L shape between Crump Blvd (may not have been in the state hwy system) and East Pkwy (US 64-70-79).
