Creation: Appeared in 1927 or 1928 running from US 41-270 (now Old Nashville Hwy) through Smyrna to end at Jefferson Pike (now TN 266) by the Sam Davis Home.
Adjustments: About 1953, TN 102 south was truncated to the new Nashville Highway (current US 41-70S) right in Smyrna. This left behind Enon Springs Rd, Division St, College St, Front St, Washington St and US 41-70S east to Jefferson St.
In 1982, TN 102 south was rerouted from the Sam Davis Rd/Mary Law Dr. intersection to instead use newly constructed routing south on today's Nissan Dr to end at I-24. The old route from Smyrna was Jefferson St and Sam Davis Rd. The north end with Jefferson Pike was altered slightly westward and no longer lines up with Gils St.
In 1983, TN 102 south was extended to TN 96 Almaville.
Posting: Posted as secondary routing throughout.
Secret US Route Overlay: None
Comment: The half mile between Sam Davis Rd and the northwest bend to TN 266 is the only part of 102 that was TN 102 in the beginning.
