Creation: Appeared in 1983 running from US 79 Nobles to TN 140 Buchanan. This was a renumbering of part of TN 140.
Adjustments: About 1989 (bridge dates), TN 218 was extended southwest with US 79 to India, then south as new construction around the east and south of Paris, ending at US 79. Around 2000 (bridge date), TN 218 was extended around the west of Paris to end at TN 54. Around 2016 (bridge date), TN 218 was extended back around to the north of Paris to end at US 641.
Posting: Posted as secondary routing everywhere. Posted as N-S with no change in direction, so the south end of TN 218 is US 641 north of Paris. The US 79 overlay northeast of paris is fully posted. Secret US Route Overlay: None Comment: Forms a 3/4 loop around Paris in addition to its original route on old TN 140.
