Creation: Appeared in 1983 running from US 51 to TN 204 Millington. This may have already been opened in 1982 but I don't know if it had a different designation first.

In 1994, a piece of TN 385 opened from I-240 to Ridgeway Rd.
In 1995, the southern piece of TN 385 was extended as new freeway to Riverdale Rd.
In 1997, the southern piece of TN 385 was extended as new freeway to Houston Levee Rd.
In 1998, the northern piece of TN 385 was extended as new freeway to US 70-79 Arlington.
In 1999, the southern piece of TN 385 was extended as new freeway to Byhalia Rd.
In 2000, the southern piece of TN 385 was extended as new freeway to US 72 Collierville.
By 2003, the northern piece of TN 385 was extended as new freeway to I-40.
In 2006, the northern piece of TN 385 was extended south as new freeway to US 64 Eads.

By 2012, the northern piece of TN 385 was extended south to TN 193 Fisherville.
In 2013, the two segments of TN 385 were connected with the opening of new freeway connecting them. This made TN 385 a 55 mile semi-circle around the outer reaches of Memphis.
In 2018, TN 385 from I-40 south to the new I-269 freeway coming up from Mississippi was made part of I-269, giving us the split TN 385 route in place today.

Technically I-269 north goes a touch past I-40 by about 1/2 mile
The southern segment (Bill Morris Pkwy) contains SPUIs at almost every interchange.
