Creation: An original US Highway that was extended to Chattanooga in June 1932 (AASHO) as an addition to US 41 from Georgia to Chattanooga. It is believed US 76 ended originally at 11th/Market. There is a small chance it ended at Central and 11th, where US 11-64 came from the northeast.
| Adjustments: In 1935 or 1936, US 76 was removed from Central Ave and instead used Main to Market to end at 11th and Market. This endpoint is confirmed with photos at US ENDS Between 1957-60, US 76 was changed to follow Main St to Broad St, which became the new endpoint for US 76. In June 1964, AASHO rejected a Tennessee request to extend US 76 west with US 11-41-64-72 a couple miles, then follow today's TN 148 up to Lookout Mountain, then follow Brow Rd to its endpoint at Point Park. About 2002, US 76 was rerouted to leave Main via Market St and proceed north to end at King St (formerly 11th) where US 72 and US 127 also unceremoniously end.
