Creation: Appeared in 1930 running generally as it does now, except its north end was at Main St in Bluff City. This was a renumbering of US 19.
Adjustments: In 1931 or 1932, US 19E was removed from Carter St/Old Elizabethton Hwy in Bluff City and placed on Elizabethton Hwy to Hillcrest instead.
In 1935, AASHO tried to get Tennessee to renumber US 19E as US 19A. Tennessee declined to do this, but US 19A did show up on some commercial maps 1935-37.

Sometime in the 1950s, US 19E was straightened out north out of Hampton. The only surviving segment is Mill Pond Rd in the Valley Forge area. The quite winding alignment where it crosses the Doe River twice is completely abandoned.
In 1953 or 1958, US 19E was removed from Crabtree Rd and Old Rock Quarry Rd west of Roan Mountain; Little Mountain Church Rd; Holtsclaw Rd; Herman Johnson Loop; J D Whitehead Rd; Old Hwy 19E, Schoolhouse Rd and Dave Simerly Rd in Tiger Valley.
In 1958, US 19E was removed from Old Hwy 19E/Buck Creek Rd east of Shell Creek; Carter St, Main St, Conway St and Cloud Land Dr in Roan Mountain;

In 1966, US 19E was removed from Rittertown Rd south of Hampton; Church St and 1st St through Hampton (1st St remained part of TN 67 for a time)
In 1975, AASHO recommended changing US 19E back to US 19 but it is unclear if this was actually presented to Tennessee.
Around 1977, US 19E was extended north to the new US 11E-19-19W routing above Bluff City (replacing some of US 11E-19).
Between 1982-85, US 19E was rerouted at Hillcrest to instead head southwest to US 11E-19-19W. The route north through Bluff City remained part of TN 37 (now TN 44, TN 390 and abandoned routing to the TN 394 interchange with US 11E-19).
Between 1982-86, US 19E was removed from State Line Rd/Johnson Ave/Sycamore St/Broad St through Elizabethton, plus today's TN 400 and Bristol Hwy up to Gail Walker Cir

About 1990, US 19E was removed from its temporary routing over Keenburg Rd and Gail Walker Cir, plus more Bristol Hwy/Elizabethton Hwy from Biltmore to Hillcrest to its current ending at US 11E-19-19W. The southwest jog back to US 11E-19-19W became part of TN 44.

Secret TN Route Overlay: TN 37 (entire route)
Comment: US 19E is part of the route that connects Bristol to Elizabethton and much of Carter County.
Given that US 19W overlays a lot of routes and its solo segment is gnarly (and bypassed by nearby I-26/US 23), US 19E should really go back to being US 19.
