US 241 #1: First establisjed in the 1925 Bureau of Public Roads plan for the US Highway System and was adopted in Dec 1926 as an official US route running from US 41 Nashville (5th at Deaderick) via Springfield to Kentucky at Guthrie. This was an addition to the entirety of TN 11.
Tennessee in Nov 1927 started showing US 241 as US 41E on maps. AASHO eventually noticed US 41E on Tennessee maps and accepted their belated request to make this change in May 1929. Note that US 241 was never posted in Tennessee.
Today, the route US 241 followed is US 41E's successor, US 41 only in a few places and instead used: US 31E; Rivergate Pkwy and Two Mile Pike north of Nashville; Old Springfield Pike between Goodlettsville and Ridgetop; Old Springfield Hwy just inside Robertson County; Old Greenbrier Pike between TN 257 and Springfield
By 1951, US 241 was removed from Old Chestnut Ridge Rd north of TN 129. In July 1952, US 241 was renumbered as US 231. This was the resolution of two competing proposals. one was to extend US 241 north as new US routing to Owensboro KY. The other was a new US route corridor from Panama City FL to the Chicago area. These proposals were sorted out by changing US 241 to US 231 north of Huntsville AL. Note that Tennessee changed the postings to US 231, but changed them back to US 241 because current maps showed only US 241. In August 1953, Tenneessee notified AASHO that new maps showing US 231 were in distribution and the US 231 signs would go back up immediately. US 241 is still US 231 except: Main St, College St, Mulberry Ave and Shelbyville Hwy through Fayetteville; now-removed street east to and around the courthouse to Main St in Shelbyville; Church/Vine/Spring above Broad in Murfreesboro (endpoint was Main at Spring).
