Creation: On August 12, 1958 WVDOH requested an interstate bypass of Wheeling, to be numbered 270. Both the memo and the accompanying map indicated that it was not yet known where it would tie back in to I-70
On November 12, 1958 AASHO informed West Virginia that I-270 had to be I-470 to match Ohio.
