Creation: On August 12, 1958 WVDOH requested an interstate bypass of Wheeling, to be numbered 270. Both the memo and the accompanying map indicated that it was not yet known where it would tie back in to I-70
On November 12, 1958 AASHO informed West Virginia that I-270 had to be I-470 to match Ohio.

Adjustments: I-470 in West Virginia opened all at once in 1983.
Improvements: Opened as 4 lanes everywhere; there is a climbing lane in each direction that ends at Exit 2.
New Interchanges: None
Comment: The Ohio potion minus the bridge over the Ohio River was opened by 1976.
