Creation: WV 279 was designated between 1999-2002 as new construction, running from US 50 Bridgeport northwest to I-79. This is the only WV 279.
Adjustments: By 2007 (GMSV), WV 279 was extended west replacing CR 707 (future WV 707) to the FBI Center.
Improvements: Upon designation, WV 279 was fully paved and multilane throughout.
Comment: Provides easy access to I-79 from US 50 without having to go through Bridgeport.
