I-79   recast
Formerly: I-79 was assigned to the newly created interstate corridor from Charlotte towards Ohio in 1957.
Between April and June 1958, I-79 was renumbered as I-77. At the time of renumbering, I-79 was projected to cross the VA/NC line at Low Gap near NC 89 instead of the current I-77 crossing near Fancy Gap.
I-79 lasted long enough to get onto NCDOT Interstate Status maps...
