N.C. 277  dead
Formerly:

NC 277: Appeared in 1931 as new primary routing, running from NC 150 Cherryville east through Dallas, then south to end at US 74/NC 20 east of Gastonia.
About 1936, NC 277 east was truncated to NC 275 just west of Dallas. The road to US 29/74 was secondary for many years but today is now part of NC 279.
About 1938, NC 277 was rerouted in Cherryville to instead end at NC 274 and not touch NC 150 at all. The old connection point to NC 150 appears to be NC 279 now.

Between 1954-57, NC 277 was straightened out, leaving behind several small loops including the "Old NC 277" that exists near Ashebrook Park.
In 1979, NC 277 was renumbered as NC 279 to accommodate the I-277 designation. It is unclear whether NC 277 was moved back to the NC 150 endpoint before this or not.
