The 1st US 117 Business was created in 1960 as a renumbering of US 117-A through Goldsboro. There have been no routing changes on 117 Business but for a couple years in the mid-2000s its endpoints were US 117-A instead of US 117.
The 2nd US 117 Business was created in 1960 as a renumbering of US 117-A through Burgaw, with no changes since.
The 3rd US 117 Business was created in 1960 as a renumbering of mainline US 117 through Mount Olive. In 1990, US 117 Business became part of current US 117-A.
