The 1st US 158 Business was created in 1960 as a renumbering of US 158-A through Gatesville. Despite county maps showing this change, official maps showed this as US 158-A through 1980 afterwich the route has been shown but unlabeled ever since.
The 2nd US 158 Business was created in 1960 as a renumbering of US 158-A through Henderson, with no changes since. Despite county maps showing this change, official maps showed this as US 158-A into the 1990s before they finally labeled it as 158 Business.
The 3rd US 158 Business was created in 1960 as a renumbering of US 158-A through Warrenton, with no changes since. Despite county maps showing this change, official maps up through 2011-12 still show this as US 158-A.
The 6th US 158 Business was created in 1993 as a renumbering of mainline US 158 through Oxford.
The 7th US 158 Business was created in 1994 or 1995, replacing mainline US 158 through Murfreesboro.
The 8th US 158 Business was created August 2025, replacing mainline US 158 through Weldon and following US 301 north to the new US 158 alignment. There are 2 decommissioned US 158 Business routes: The 4th US 158 Business was created in 1960 as a renumbering of mainline US 158 on the OUter Banks. It also replaced the easternmost 0.4 miles of US 64-264.
The 5th US 158 Business was created in 1962 as a renumbering of mainline US 158 in central Winston-Salem. It ran on one-way splits: EB used Cherry St/4th St/Dunleith St while WB used Marshall St/5th St. In 1970, US 158 Business was decommissioned. A small piece remained part of US 311 but all is secondary today.
