The Roads:

US 29 Business was born in 1973 when mainline US 29 was put on a new freeway bypass east around Reidsville. The original western bypass became US 29 business. This is the 6th US 29 Business.
The 1st US 29 business was born in 1960 as a renumbering of US 29-A in Reidsville. US 29 Business used Madison St and Scales Ave through town. This was once original NC 70. This US 29 business was decommissioned in 1973 when US 29 was rerouted to the east of town.

The 2nd US 29 Business was born in 1960 as a renumbering of US 29-A through Lexington. It used Main St through town, following the route of original NC 10.
In Sept 2003 (NCDOT), US 29 Bus was decommisioned. Part of Main St west of town is now part of NC 8.

The 3rd US 29 Business was born 1960 as a renumbering of US 29-A through Thomasville. It used Main St and Turner Rd, following the route of original NC 10.
It appears US 29 Bus was decommissioned by 1962.
The 4th US 29 Business was born 1960 as a duplex with US 74 from Little Rock Rd (then-US 29) east into Charlotte; upgraded routing on Morehead St (had once been US 29); duplex with NC 49 on Graham/Dalton/Tryon Sts in Charlotte, ending out at US 29 (now US 29 CONN) northeast of the city.
In 1962, US 29 Bus was extended west along US 74 to US 29/NC 273.
In 1963, US 29 Bus was renumbered as mainline US 29 again.

The 5th US 29 Business was born 1960 as a renumbering of mainline US 29 through Salisbury and Spencer, using main St through town, following the original NC 15.
US 29 Business returned to being mainline 29 in 1964 or 1965.

The 7th US 29 Business was born April 1996 (NCDOT), replacing mainline US 29 at the Virginia state line. The US 29 Bypass for Danville, Virginia begins just inside North Carolina. I believe this is actually maintained by VDOT.
