U.S. 301-A  dead
Formerly: The first US 301-A appeared in 1942 as the original bypass of Wilson which used Eastern Blvd, Stantonsburg Rd, and Pender Rd.
In 1948 this was renumbered as mainline US 301. Today only the Eastern Blvd part is still US 301.
The 2nd US 301-A appeared in 1948 in a route swap with US 301 in Wilson. US 301-A used Goldsboro St. and Herring Ave.
Although maps are vague about this, I believe this US 301-A went away when US 301's final bypass of Wilson was opened.

The 4th US 301-A was born in 1953 replacing US 301 through Fayetteville using Gillespie St and Person St.
US 301-A was renumbered as US 301 Business in 1962. County maps up through at least 1972 showed it remaining 301-A but official state maps 1962 onward had it as 301 Business. Today it is secondary routing.

The 5th US 301-A was created about 1953 as a renumbering of mainline US 301 through Weldon. It appears this disappeared in 1956 and is today SR 1651 Washington Ave, Second St and SR 1684 Sycamore, Shown but unlabeled on officials.

The 6th US 301-A appeared about 1954 as a renumbering of US 301 through Lumberton. Note that part of 301's routing was abandoned in this action as 5th St, Elm St, Elizabethtown St out to Pine St became secondary.
In 1960, US 301-A was renumbered as US 301 Business. Today it is some of NC 72 but otherwise secondary.
