Creation: Appeared as new primary routing about 1929. Initially ran only from SC 65 (now SC 61) Givhans to US 78/SC 2 northeast of Ridgeville. This is the 2nd SC 27.
| Adjustments: In 1940, SC 27 was rerouted at Ridgeville to meet US 78 north of Ridgeville, then after a brief overlay with US 78 west, extended north as new primary routing to the Berkeley County line. In 1942, SC 27 was extended nothwest as new primary routing to end at SC 31 (now US 176).
Improvements: SC 27 was paved only from Ridgeville east to US 78 between 1934-35. SC 27 was paved from SC 61 to US 78 in 1941. SC 27 was paved from US 78 to US 176 in 1956. SC 27 has no multilane segments. Comment: SC 27's main function is to serve Ridgeville. | Previous SC 27's:

SC 27 #1: An original state route. Ran from SC 12 (current US 1) Aiken east through Williston, Denmark, Bamberg, Branchville, and St George before ending at SC 2 (now US 178) near Dorchester.
In 1923, SC 27 was extended northwest as new primary routing to SC 19-21 (now US 25/SC 121) Trenton. Original SC 27 1926 Official In 1927, SC 27 was renumbered as SC 19 from Trenton to Aiken and US 78 from Aiken to Dorchester.
