Creation: SC 92 appeared in 1925 or 1926 as a renumbering of SC 9 from SC 10 (now US 221) Enoree through Cross Anchor and Union to the new SC 9 at Kelly. This is the only SC 92.
Adjustments: In 1928 or 1929, SC 92 was rerouted at Union to follow SC 11 (now SC 18) north a couple miles then northeast as new primary routing a short distance to connect back with the original SC 92. The old routing is now S-44-48 Pinckney St; SC 49 Arthur Blvd; S-44-122 Calhoun St; S-44-383 Lakeside Dr; S-44-69 Peach Orchard Dr; S-44-382 Barnado Rd.

In 1938, SC 92 was straightened out between Enoree and Cross Anchor, leaving behind today's Riverview St and Graham St in Enoree; S-42-256 (Ice House Rd); an extended SC 30 (now S-42-10); New Hope Church Rd. Also about 1938, SC 92 was removed from Red Barn Rd and Compton Cirle west of Cross Keys, as well as given the cutoff that bypasses the Cross Keys crossroads. It is unclear if SC 92 used Boatman Springs Rd east of the Tyger River.
In 1939, SC 92 was extended northeast as new primary routing 3 miles from Kelly to today's S-44-34 past Kelton.
In 1940, SC 92 was extended northeast as new primary routing to SC 98 (now SC 105).
In 1947, SC 92 east was rerouted at Union to replace SC 215 to monarch and southeast to the newly routed SC 215 Carem (this is now S-44-6, SC 49, and SC 49-215 CONN). The old route northeast of Union became US 176 and SC 11 (now SC 18); S-44-4; S-44-13 and S-44-15 (now also S-44-13).

In 1956, SC 92 east was truncated to its current ending, replaced by SC 49 (in Union this is now S-44-6) and SC 49-215 CONN.

Improvements: SC 92's first pavement was its SC 11 (now SC 18) multiplex above Union, in place by 1932.
In 1934, SC 92 was fully paved above Union.
In 1939, SC 92 was fully paved from Enoree to Union.
SC 92 was fully paved in all alignments in 1948.
No multilane segments exist on SC 92.
Comment: SC 92 is erroneously shown on the 1927 Clason's as running from Spartanburg to Kelly.
SC 92 has been reduced to minor route since the extension of SC 49.
