Previous US 117's: US 117: Appeared in late 1932, the same year it appeared nationally. Entered South Carolina at Little River, headed south to Myrtle Beach over SC 49, then replaced SC 38 west to Socastee before heading north to its end at US 701 (now SC 905 4th St) Conway. US 117's routing was 43 miles.
In 1935, US 117 was renumbered as US 501 from Conway to Myrtle Beach and US 17 from Myrtle Beach to North Carolina.
Today US 117's routing: US 501 Bus across the Waccamaw River; S-26-14 Depot Rd; S-26-272 Washington Ave; SC 544; Dick Pond Rd; SC 707; Emory Rd/Powell Lane; abandoned routing through the airport; S-26-15 Old Socastee Hwy; US 17 to the NC Line except S-26-20 to Nixons Crossroads and SC 90 north back to US 17.
