Creation: The I-65 corridor north of Nashville appeared in 1939 as part of the long-term national planning leading to the Interstate system. Adjustments: The first segment of I-65 to open was the brief US 31 overlay at the Alabama border, which opened in November 1958. Note the Alabama side was built as a regular 4-lane highway before the Interstate System was passed in Congress.
