Creation: The I-69 corridor through Tennessee was born out of the 1991 Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act which extended I-69 from Indianapolis southwest to Mexico.
| In January 2008, Tennessee requested and received FWHA approval for I-69 to be formally assigned along I-55 from Mississippi to I-240; I-240 from I-55 to I-40; I-40 from I-240 to TN 300. Adjustments: None Improvements: 8-laned on I-55 overlay upon designation; 6-laned everywhere else New Exits Added: None Comment: Despite Tennessee requesting the I-69 designation on the interstates through Memphis, they have never posted I-69 there. Future I-69 LGS is on I-55 NB just past the MS/TN state line. The recently opened TN 690 around Union City will be a part of I-69, as will existing US 51 freeway segments north of I-155 and Union City. A new freeway will be built around Troy, though. This poetion of I-69 from I-155 to Kentucky is very likely to be completed. I-69 from TN 300 will be all new freeway and there is no indication Tennessee is in any hurry to make progress on it. TN 300 itself will also be part of I-69. Tennessee does show the I-55/69 overlay on maps, but only on the Mississippi side of the border. |
