Creation: Appeared about 1949 running from US 45 Selmer to TN 57 east of Southside. Selmer to Shiloh was a renumbering of TN 57, while the rest was new construction.
Adjustments: In the mid 1970s, TN 22-142 was placed on a new road bypassing the west of Shiloh Battlefield. Originally the route used Hamburg-Purdy Rd; Corinth Rd; abandoned roadway to the village of Shiloh. In 1983, TN 142 was extended west with TN 57 to Southside, then south to Mississippi. Posting: Posted as secondary routing throughout Secret US Route Overlay: None Comment: Mapmikey drove TN 143 in the middle of the night in the late 1980s. Memory was that along with NC 261 this was a very twisty road on both sides of Carver Gap
