TN 3A #1: Appeared in 1935 or 1936 as new primary routing, running from TN 3 (now Old Hernando Rd) north along today's Elvis Presley Blvd/Bellevue Blvd. to end at US 64-70 Union Ave.
It appears shortly after, US 51 was moved to TN 3A. In 1939 or 1940, TN 3A was renumbered as part of TN 3, which it remains today.
TN 3A #2: Appeared in the route log in 1960 as the newly constructed bypass around the west and north of Dyersburg. The 1956 historic aerial shows it under construction only from TN 20 around the north of town to US 51/TN 3, so this was actually opened until the late 1950s, it appears. About 1962, TN 3A was renumbered as TN 3 Byp. Today it is US 51/TN 3. Note the 1958 and 1962 route logs called this 3 Byp and the 1954 and 1960 route logs called it 3A
