TN 81A #1: Appeared in 1938 as new state routing from TN 81 (now Old Asheville Hwy) Rocky Fork west to the north Carolina line connecting to NC 212.
In 1951, TN 81A was decommissioned but later became part of TN 352.

TN 81A #2: Appeared between 1956-63 as new state highway running on Industry Dr and Center St in Kingsport between TN 81 (now TN 126) and US 23 (now TN 36).
Between 1967-69, TN 81A was renumbered as TN 93A. It may have been moved to Sullivan St prior to this renumbering. See the difference in routings in the scans below. Today it is TN 355 and Center St.
