US 23W: Officially requested by Kentucky in September 1929 to run from Jenkins KY to Asheville NC via Tazewell and Knoxville.
Tennessee thought this was silly, as it would be fully concurrent in Tennessee with US 25E north of Knoxville and US 25-70 east of Knoxville.
In April 1930, AASHO declined to split US 23.
