US 62  thwarted
US 62:

US 62: The original 1925 plan had US 62 east ending at Ashland KY, which is non-sensical since US 23 didn't extend south of Portsmouth OH. So perhaps this was a mistatement and US 62's east end was meant to be US 52 Huntington WV
During the formation of the US route system in 1925-26, Kentucky complained that they were the only state without an x0 route (guess they hadn't heard of South Carolina). This led AASHO to try to find a different number for US 52 in West Virginia which was to run from OH at Huntington east through Charleston, Rainelle and Lewisburg to Virginia.
AASHO approved US 62 to replace US 52 in West Virginia on Jan 14, 1926.
Kentucky objected to US 62 and it became US 60 on Aug 11, 1926.
