Creation: Appeared in 1950 replacing what had been part of US 119 along 2nd Ave in downtown Williamson. Maps that I have seen (1980-2018) show US 119 ALT ending at CR 119/1 Vinson St and not connecting back to US 119 via 2nd/3rd Ave or CR 119/1 east to then US 52-119. This is the 2nd US 119 ALT.

US 119 ALT #1: On June 13, 1945 WVDOH requested that US 119 ALT be assigned from Clendenin to Weston using WV 4 and US 19. AASHO replied June 27, 1945 indicating wouldn't it be better to move US 119 to the US 119 ALT route and downgrade US 119 from Clendenin to Spencer to a state highway?
On July 5, 1945 WVDOH agreed to reroute US 119 as AASHO had requested.
Note that US 119 never ended up being moved...
