Creation: Appeared 1928 (WVDOT annual report) as new primary routing running from US 50 (now WV 618) Parkersburg to WV 11 east of Cisco. This is the 2nd WV 47.

Adjustments: Between 1929-31, WV 47 was extended east replacing WV 11 to end at WV 18 Troy. In 1936 or 1937, WV 47 was removed from CR 47/17 Kanawha River Rd through Kanawha Station and also from CR 47/20 Oxbow Rd through Oxbow Between 1938-46, WV 47 was extended east replacing WV 18 from Troy to US 33-119 Linn. Also between 1938-46, WV 47 was rebuilt onto new alignments east out of Parkersburg and was removed from CR 47/18 Baltimore St, CR 47/19 Golden St, CR 47/20 (now cutoff by I-77), CR 47/21 Cedar Grove Rd, CR 47/22 Old Turnpike Rd, CR 47/23 Old State 47, CR 47/24 Staunton Pike, and CR 47/25 Old State 47
Improvements: By 1935, WV 47 was paved from Parkersburg to Kanawha Station and from Smithville to Burnt House The remainder of WV 47 was paved by 1946; no multilane segmetns on WV 47 Comment: Main way to get from Weston to Parkersburg | Previous WV 47's:

WV 47 #1: Appeared 1922 as new primary routing running from WV 9 (Union at Wilkes) Berkeley Springs southeast to WV 52 (now US 11) Martinsburg.
Between 1929-31, WV 47 was renumbered as part of WV 9. Today it is still WV 9 except Wilkes/Fairfax Sts in Berkeley Springs; CR 11/24 Warm Springs Ave in Martinsburg
