Creation: Appeared in 1930 (WVDOH Annual Report) as new primary routing, running from US 50 Gormania southwest to Henry. This is the only WV 90.
Adjustments: Between 1947-56, WV 90 was extended southwest as new construction to US 219 near Thomas. WV 90 was also straightened out in several places from Henry to Bayard.
Note that some early WV Officials suggested WV 90 ran the whole way to US 219 but Grant and Tucker County maps through at least 1946 show no road at all southwest of Henry.

Improvements: In 1932, WV 90 was paved from Gormania to Bayard.
Between 1947-56, WV 90 was paved from Bayard to Henry.
Henry to US 219 was paved sometime after that.
WV 90 has no multilaned segments.
Comment: WV 90 follows the North Branch Potomac River for much of its route.
