WV 972: Appeared Oct 1978 as a renumbering of US 220 between US 50 and the relocated US 220 in the New Creek area. WVDOT had requested this old alignment become US 220 ALT.
In July 2017 (tm forum), WV 972 was replaced by an extended WV 93. 972 is the highest primary route number ever used in West Virginia.
