The 1st US 19 Business was born in 1960 as a renumbering of US 19-A. It used Haywood Ave through W. Asheville, then Clingman Ave to Patton Ave which was then-US 19.

US 19-A becomes US 19 Bus

The 1961 Official Map suggests US 19 Business was extended over Patton into downtown Asheville to replace mainline US 19 which had been moved onto the East-West Expressway. This would place 19 Business on one-way splits: NB used Patton to Market north to Woodfin west to Broadway north. SB used Broadway south to College west to Patton.
In 1962, US 19 Business was rerouted to follow Hanover St (now I-240) north from Haywood back to mainline US 19. The old route into Asheville proper became SR 3548.

The 2nd US 19 Business was born about 1966 when US 19 was placed on a new bypass west of Weaverville.
US 19 Business uses Weaverville Rd; Merrimon Ave; Main St through town and follows the route of original NC 29.
Maps show this as also US 23 BUsiness but it is posted in the field only as US 19 Bus.

The 3rd US 19 Business appeared about 1979 as a renumbering of mainline US 19-129 which was placed on a new bypass to the west.
US 19 Business uses Main St through town which is the original route of NC 10.
The 4th US 19 Business appeared about 1980 as a renumbering of US 19-129 which was placed on a bypass to the east.
US 19 Business uses Hiawassee St; Valley River Ave; Wilson St; E. hill Rd; Andrews Rd. This was the original routing of NC 10.
Official maps also show this as US 129 Business for a while, but the '82 Cherokee County map does not.
