Previous US 1 ALTs: |
US 1 ALT #2: Appeared as new primary routing between 1942-44 running from US 1 Crystal City north along the east side of the Pentagon before heading into Washington DC via the Memorial Bridge. In Dec 1964 (CTB), US 1 ALT was renumbered as VA 110. US 1 ALT was shown explicitly on official maps only 1944-46 but is explicitly shown on the 1958 Arlington County Map.
US 1 ALT #3: Appeared around 1945 (bridge dates) as a bypass of Fredericksburg from US 1/VA 51 (now VA 208) to US 1 at the Rappahannock River. In May 1971 (AASHO), US 1 ALT became mainline US 1. As of 2022 there is still a US 1 ALT posting on US 1 SB Fredericksburg!
US 1 ALT #4: Appears in the 1949 VDOT Route Log as Adams St in Petersburg. I haven't found a begin date for this (though not in the 1941 Route Log). This may have also been Washington St east of Sycamore. Not shown on any state official maps but is on some county maps. In Aug 1951 (CTB), US 1 ALT #3 became the NB routing of US 1. US 1 ALT #5?: Shown on Rand McNally 1961 Atlas and on VDOT official maps 1963-68 using Washington St/Powhatan Ave. I can find no CTB references to the route or for adding/subtracting these streets from the primary system so this may not have technically existed.
