Creation: CTB minutes imply this goes back to July 1933,
but the earliest explicit use of the 303 designation was in the August
1936 minutes. The July 1932 CTB Minutes assigns 1.0756 miles to VMI. County maps for some reason did not show this until after at least 1958.
Official maps did not start identifying VA 303 until around 1990. This
is the 2nd VA 303.
Adjustments: In Jan 1945 (CTB), the road from about the mess hall to the road near hospital (0.17 mi) was added to VA 303. In Aug 1955 (CTB), 0.74 miles of driveways were added to VA 303. In Feb 1959 (CTB), a 0.49 miles road from the west side of the parade ground to north of the railroad was added to VA 303. In May 1960 (CTB), Letcher Ave outside the VMI gate down to the ane separating VMI from Washington and Lee University was added to VA 303. In April 1965 (CTB), the road from the barracks to Burma Rd was removed from VA 303. In July 1969 (CTB), Burma Rd was added to VA 303. Posting: No signs on US 11 Bus or US 60. I have driven about half of the campus to see if any 303 signs are in there and found none. I have seen post cards that seem to show a 303 cutout but it is too fuzzy to see if that is truly what I see. Comment: VA 303 is on some 80's VDOT state maps erroneously where VA 383 in Fairfax County is.

VA 303 #1: Appeared in August 1928 as a newly numbered route. Ran from VA 18 (curr US 501) Volens west 4.92 miles.
In August 1929 (CTB Minutes), VA 303 was extended 0.98 miles west to VA 20 (current abandoned segment of VA 40) Cody. VA 303 was renumbered as the southern segment of VA 126 in July 1933. Today it is SR 603 and a small bit of SR 668.
