SC 1: An original state highway that ran the Georgia line near Savannah north through Hardeeville and Ridgeland to Yemassee, then northwest throguh Hampton to Allendale, then north through Barnwell, Blackville, and Springfield, then north through Pelion before ending at SC 12 (now US 1) West Columbia.
In 1924, SC 1 was removed from the route Springfield to West Columbia via Pelion and instead was placed on projected routing from Springfield northeast through Swansea to end at SC 2 (now US 21-176) Dixiana. The old route became SC 39 from Springfield to Perry while the rest became seconday. Today this is still SC 39, S-2-14 and S-2-337, and SC 302 to Springdale. In 1925 or 1926, SC 1 was given a newly constructed bypass of Springfield leaving behind a secondary route (this is the southern half of SC 3 Bus today), then new primary routing to Dixiana. In 1928, SC 1 was dropped from US 17 from Georgia to Yemassee; renumbered as SC 28 from Yemassee to Allendale; SC 3 from Allendale to Dixiana. Today this is SC 170; US 17 to Pocotaligo; S-7-3 and S-27-1 to Yemassee; SC 68; US 278 to Barnwell; SC 3 to below Swansea except S-6-150 between Barnwell and Blackville; US 321 to Dixiana.
