Creation: An original state route that initially ran from TN 48 Centerville to TN 10-15 (now US 64 Bus) Fayetteville.
| Adjustments: In 1927 or 1928, TN 50 was extended west replacing TN 48 to TN 13 Beardstown.
In 1932, TN 50 was extended east, replacing TN 15 through Lynchburg and Winchester to end at US 41 Pelham.
In 1935, TN 50 was removed from Old Williamsport Pike/Campbell Blvd in Columbia. In 1936, TN 50 was removed from Belfast St in Lewisburg and Old Belfast Rd to Belfast; Fishing Ford Rd from Belfast through Talley to TN 129 near Petersburg Also in 1936, TN 50 was removed from Deer Trace above Fayetteville TN 50 may have briefly used Perkins Ln to connect to TN 99 in western Columbia but was moved to its current routing by 1938. In 1938, TN 50 was removed from Shields Rd/Brown Trail Rd in Howell; Old Peterburg Pike from Howell to Bidwell; Morgan Cir above Bidwell In 1939, TN 50 was removed from Bruce McCaleb Rd in easten Hickman County Between 1945-48 (per topos) TN 50 was rerouted in Winchester from using 4th/Vine/3rd/High to its current routing of 4th/Cedar/2nd/High. In 1949, TN 50 was removed from Church St/Columbia Ave/Cedar Park Rd/Old State Hwy 50 east out of Centerville; Tottys Bend Rd/Old Hwy 50 E further east Between 1939-51, TN 50 was removed from High St/Church St in Petersburg In 1950, TN 50 was removed from Old Lynchburg Hwy, Cedar Cir and a stretch of Wabash Rd in Mulberry. In 1951, TN 50 was removed from Old State Route 50 (no longer crosses Duck River to) and West End Avenue in Centerville. Also in 1951, TN 50 was removed from a bit of Mayberry Rd/abandoned bridge-routing/Marlowe Rd in the area of Natchez Trace Pkwy; Old Williamsport Rd in Williamsport In 1953, TN 50 was removed from Henderson Rd/Old Fayetteville Hwy southwest of Lynchburg. In 1957, TN 50 was removed from Old Mulberry Rd east out of Fayetteville; Sullivan Ln, Park Spur. I'm guessing TN 50 was removed from Old Winchester Rd between US 41A and Decherd in the 1960s. In 1972, TN 50 was removed from Joe Reeves Rd/Old Columbia Rd leading into Lewisburg, as TN 50 was plaaced on new construction to connect to the existing Lewisburg Bypass. It appears TN 50 continued down Verona Ave to downtown and back east out Commerce Ave as it does today. In 1975, TN 50's west end moved from roughly the current TN 13 intersection with Old Beardstwon Rd south to the current TN 438 east split with the construction of a new Buffalo River bridge. In 1978, TN 50 was given its bypass around the south of Columbia, leaving behind TN 99 (now US 412 Bus Hampshire Pike/7th St), S. Main St, E 9th St and Mapleash Ave. About 1980, TN 50 was removed from Orton Cir east of Duck River and Old State Road 50 in Shipps Bend. In 1981, TN 50 was removed from Old Lewisburg Hwy in Fountain Heights; Rick Hight Rd through Park Station In 1983, TN 50 was extended in both directions: east as new state highway to TN 56 Altamont; west with TN 13 north, then west and southwest as new state highway to end at TN 20 (now US 412) at the Tennessee River.
About 1993, TN 50 was removed from Old Alto Hwy northeast of Decherd; Old State Hwy 50; Old Pelham Rd In 1995 or 1996, TN 50 west was rerouted west of Centerville to head west-northwest as mostly new construction to end at I-40 near Only (replaced a bit of TN 229's north end). The old route to Beardstown and to US 412/TN 20 became TN 438, Hwy 50 West Loop west of the Duck River.
Between 1998-2005, TN 50 was removed from Ball Park Rd in Pelham. In 2015 or 2016, TN 50 was rerouted onto Fraley Pkwy west of Winchester to then follow US 64 Bus into central Winchester. The old route is Lynchburg Rd, 4th, Vine, 3rd, and TN 130 (High). Posting: Posted as primary routing from Centerville to Lynchburg, plus the US 64 overlay.
