Creation: Appeared in 1930 defined in the route log as running from Nashville via the Hillsboro Pike to the Meriweather Lewis Monument. The Davidson County part was a renumbering of TN 6. The road from the Williamson County line southwestward had not yet been constructed.
Adjustments: In 1935 or 1936, the description in the route log was changed to Nashville to the Williamson County line. The planned route to the Merriweather Monument was roughly along today's TN 46 and the Natchez Trace Pkwy.
In 1939 or 1940, TN 106 was extended southeast from the county line to US 31 Franklin (this had also been US 31/TN 6 up until 1929). This was a replacement for part of TN 96.
In 1951, TN 106 was extended south to end at US 31 ALT Lewisburg.

In 1953, US 431 was added to the entirety of TN 106
In 1962, TN 106 may not have been placed on the new Lewisburg Bypass right away.
By 1964, TN 106 was placed on the Lewisburg Bypass, replacing TN 106 Byp and the new endpoint was at US 31 ALT northeast of Lewisburg. This left behind Franklin Ave, N. 3rd Ave and 1 block of TN 50 (now TN 373).
In 1983, TN 106 south was extended with US 431/TN 50 to where they leave the Lewisburg bypass, then replaced TN 11 Byp around to US 31 ALT Business south of Lewisburg.
