Creation: Appeared in 1930 running from TN 27 (now Hudson St at Valley View Hwy) Whitwell to TN 56 north of Coalmont.
| Adjustments: In 1931 or 1932, TN 108 was extended north to McMinnville. From west of Viola north to McMinnville had been part of TN 55 not long before. Although several possible old routings of TN 108 could exist between Gruetli and Whitwell, TN 108 was on its current alignments by 1936. From Gruetli to Warren County there appear to be a couple possible older routings, such as Colony Rd west of Gruetli and Sherwood/Johnson Rds west of Hixon. however TN 108 is shown on its current alignments on the 1939 Grundy County map. In 1956, TN 108 was removed from Old Viola Rd and S. high St in McMinnville and placed on S. Chancery St into downtown McMinnville. In 1964, TN 108 was removed from Old State Highway 56 in Cumberland Heights. Between 1973-81, TN 108 was truncated to its current end at TN 28. South to TN 27 became part of TN 28 (some of this is just Hudson St now). In 1995 or 1996, TN 108 was placed on new construction from TN 56 Coalmont west to TN 50, then joined TN 50 northeast back to TN 56 Altamont. The old TN 108 path to Altamont remains TN 56. Posting: Posted as primary from Whitwell to TN 50; the rest is secondary. The overlays with TN 50, TN 55 Bus and TN 56 are all fully posted. Secret US Route Overlay: None Comment: The routing of TN 108 over to TN 50 then back to Altamont makes no sense as it is 7 miles longer than staying with TN 56. A new number would've been better on this new road. A lot of Tennessee Officials show TN 108 looping through Coffee County (1939 Coffee County map shows it) on its way to McMinnville but at some point the county line was redrawn and TN 108 no longer enters Coffee County.
