US 41W  redesignated
Previous US 41W's:

US 41W: First mapped by Tennessee in November 1927 as a replacement of US 41 from Nashville through Clarksville to Kentucky following TN 12.
AASHO eventually noticed US 41W on Tennessee maps and accepted their belated request to make this change in mid-1929.

Between 1934-39, US 41W was removed from John Mallette Dr in Bordeaux
In 1934, AASHO tried to redesignate US 41W from Clarksville to Nashville as an unnamed new US route number. US 43 coming up from Waynesboro would replace US 41W north of Clarksville
In 1935, AASHO officially changed US 41W to be part of US 43. Tennessee declined to sign the route this way (despite changing their route logs and insisting to AASHO that US 43 not follow TN 48 to Waynesboro) and US 41W remained on the route.
In 1937 or 1938, US 41W was moved from TN 12 to TN 112 between Clarksville and Bordeaux just out side Nashville. The previous route is still TN 12 except: Old Hydes Ferry Pike in Scottsboro and abandoned routing east over to today's TN 155; Old Ashland City Hwy west of Scottsboro; Old Hydes Ferry Pike and Caldwell Rd east of Ashland City; Chapmansboro Rd west of Ashland City; W Chetham School Rd near Cheap Hill; Bethel Rd/Mosley Ferry Rd/Old Hwy 12 in the Bethel area; Edwards Rd; Old Ashland City Hwy through Fredonia; E. Leonard Rd; Earl Rd; E Old Ashland City Rd north of Excell; Old Ashland City Rd and Golf Club Ln in Clarksville. Interestingly, the 1931 Clasons showed this move already.
Also by 1939, US 41W was removed from Old Mill Rd (no longer connects to)/Tobacco Rd northwest of Clarksville
It appears US 41W was removed from Old Hopkinsville Hwy (cutoff by TN 374) in the early 1940s.
Also in the early 1940s, US 41W was rerouted in Nashville. Originally it ran from 5th and Deaderick St in downtown Nashville, up 5th to Monroe St west to 9th north (through Kroger parkng lot now and also does not cross I-65) to Buchanan west to 18th (now Dr. Todd Blvd) to Clarksville Pile across the river with current US 41A. The new routing began at Broadway and 8th, running up 8th to Clay west to 18th north to Clarksville Pike.

In 1944, US 41W was renumbered as US 41A. It remains US 41A except in Nashville it is just 8th St/Clay St/Clarksville Pike. Tennessee Officials still showed US 41W through at least 1946. This was due to AASHO deferring this action to 1947 because of controversy surrounding the former US 41E and 41W designations (including the never-posted US 43 and a later desire to have the route via Clarksville be mainline US 41)
