Creation: Appeared about 2011 as newly constructed Mon-Fayette Expressway and a replacement for a bit of CR 69/6. During planning stages this had been designated WV 109. This is the 3rd WV 43.
| Adjustments: None Improvements: Fully paved upon designation; fully controlled access freeway except at the interchange with I-68. Comment: WV 43 has one other interchange - CR 88/1 Bowers Ln which is signed as Exit 1 for TO CR 857. Although there are no toll booths until inside Pennsylvania, WV 43 is a toll road north of Exit 1 as there is no other place one can go but the PA 43 Tpk Route.

WV 43 #1: Appeared 1922 as new primary routing running from WV 24 (now US 219) Marlinton east to Virginia at Rimel.
In 1935, WV 43 west was truncated to WV 28 (now WV 92) Minnehaha Springs. From here to Marlinton became part of WV 28 (now WV 39 except in Huntersville WV 43 used WV 28 and CR 39/3). In 1941, WV 43 was renumbered as part of WV 39 which it remains except WV 43 used CR 39/5 in Minnehaha Springs.
WV 43 #2: Appeared in 1941 as a renumbering of part of WV 15 from US 19 (now CR 19/41) Muddlety to WV 41 near Calvin.
About 1970, WV 43 west was extended south replacing part of US 19 to a new interchange with rebuilt US 19. Between 1978-80, WV 43 was renumbered as part of today's WV 150. Today it is part of WV 55.
