| Creation: WV 87 was designated in 1937, replacing a piece of WV 5 from Chestnut to US 33 (now CR 5) Evans. This is the 3rd WV 87. Adjustments: Between 1950-57, WV 87 was extended east replacing some US 33 out to the new alignment of US 33 (now WV 62).

WV 87 #1: Appeared 1928 (WVDOT annual report), running from WV 19 (now WV 62) near Point Pleasant to WV 5 (now WV 62) near the Jackson County line.
By 1931, WV 87 was renumbered as part of WV 5. Today it is WV 2. I have not yet found a map that shows this WV 87 but it is explicitly mentioned in the 1927 Annual Report of the State Highway Commission. WV 87 #2: Appeared in 1933 as a renumbering of part of WV 62. Ran from WV 62 (now WV 2) Mt. Alto to WV 5 (now current WV 87) Evans. In 1937, WV 87 was replaced by US 33. Today it is WV 331 Mt Alto to Cottageville; CR 33/17 Conrad Hill Rd; CR 5 Evans Rd. See scan under current WV 87.
