Creation: Likely created in 1967, running the way it does now. This is the 2nd WV 16 ALT.

WV 16 ALT #1: Unknown when this came into existence. In 2004 it ran on Howard St from WV 16 SB (McDowell St) east to US 52 ALT (Elkhorn St) within Welch. This functionally served as the US 52 ALT NB routing through downtown.
By 2007, Howard St became disconnected when a movie theater was built in its ROW between the WV 16 NB and SB alignments. At this time, Howard St east of WV 16 NB (Wyoming St) became US 52 SPUR which is still the functional route of US 52 ALT NB. Despite Howard St being gone by 2007, the 2014 McDowell County map still showed WV 16 ALT more clearly than the 2004 map did.
