The Road: Begins at I-40/NC 885 Research Triangle Park and ends at I-85/US 15-70 in northeast Durham, all within Durham County

History:
I-885 appeared in August 2014 when NCDOT released the signing plans for the East End Connector southeast of Durham (thanks to Bob Malme).
In June 2022, after 7 years of construction, I-885 replaced NC 147 north from I-40, used the newly constructed East End Connector, then followed US 70 to I-85.
The East End Connector had been a dotted line on Durham County maps back to at east 1962!
I-885 retained the exit numbers of NC 147 starting at NC 540 (where NC 885 comes to meet I-40/885).

Comments: I-885 now makes it possible to get from I-85 to Raleigh on a full freeway without going way out of the way.
