I-185 appeared in May 2003 when NCDOT requested from AASHTO the addition of this designation to the US 52 freeway between I-85 south of Lexington and I-40 Winston-Salem. AASHTO rejected the request for reasons unrelated to the number itself.
By the time North Carolina got approval for this corridor in Sept 2005, it had been renumbered as I-285. |
