VA 312 #1: Appeared in January 1923 (CTB Minutes). Originally ran from VA 31 (current SR 671) Coatesville to Gum Tree.
In May 1925 (CTB Minutes), VA 312 was extended north to VA 31 (current SR 608?) replacing what had been original VA 1/31's original routing, as VA 31 was relocated to present US 1's corridor.
By 1927, VA 312 was extended northeast to the newer routing of VA 31 (curr US 1) Four Mile Fork, replacing an older alignment of VA 31 in Spotsylvania.
In August 1928, VA 312 was renumbered as VA 51. Today, the original VA 312 is SR 738 and the last extended piece is now VA 208.
