SC 98 #1: Appeared in 1928 as new primary routing, running from US 1/SC 9 (now S-35-36/52 jct) Kollock northeast to North Carolina heading for Hamlet NC.
In 1934 or 1935, SC 98 south was truncated to the new alignment of SC 9 (now S-35-52/165 jct) Hickson, with the old ending of SC 98 taken over by SC 9.
In 1938, SC 98 was renumbered as SC 77. Today it is S-35-165 Old Wire Rd; Garden Ln; SC 177

SC 98 #2: Appeared in 1940 as new primary routing, running from SC 9 Robat north to the Enoree River.
In 1942, SC 98 was extended in both directions as new primary routing: south to SC 91 (now SC 49) and northwest to SC 18 (now SC 150) in southwestern Cherokee County.
In 1947, SC 98 was truncated on both ends to run from SC 11 (now SC 18) Asbury to SC 9 Robat. South of Robat became S-44-27 (now SC 105) and west of then-SC 11 became S-11-33.
In 1949, SC 98 was re-extended west to SC 18 (now SC 150).
In 1956, SC 98 was renumbered as SC 211 from SC 150 to Sarratt and SC 105 from Sarratt to Robat.
