Creation: SC 284 appeared in 1940 as new primary routing, running from SC 71 near Lowdnesville northeast through Antreville to end at SC 201 just inside Anderson County. This is the 2nd SC 284.
| Adjustments: In 1942, SC 284 replaced SC 201 north to SC 185 then continued north as new primary routing to end at US 76-178 and SC 20 Belton. In 1947, SC 284 south was truncated to SC 28 Antreville, leaving behind some SC 28 overlay plus S-1-27. In 1950, SC 284 was re-extended south back to SC 71. In 1956, SC 284 north was truncated to its current end at SC 20-252. The road to Belton became part of SC 20. SC 284 was extended south to SC 81 as an upgrade to S-1-64. State officials say this starting with 1993 or 1994; my late 1980s county map atlas shows it. When I used to drive SC 81 occasionally in the late 80s it was posted with a 70s square shield.
Improvements: SC 284 was paved on its SC 28 overlay 1940. SC 284 was fully paved in Anderson County in 1941 or 1942. SC 284 was fully paved in all segments from 1948 forward There are no multilane segments on SC 284. Comment: SC 284's jct with SC 20-252 is a grade-separated interchange with 2-way ramps from SC 252 and SC 20 tying directly to SC 284. | Previous SC 284's:
