I-126: When Tennessee was getting ready to replace I-181 south of I-81 in 2002-03, they wanted to replace I-181 north of I-81 with I-126.
In March 2003, the Kingsport MPO convinced TDOT to request I-26 instead. AASHTO turned down the renumbering north of I-81 in June 2003. I-26 was later extended north of I-81 through the 2005 SAFETEA-LU highway bill passed by Congress. |
