WV 94 #1: Appeared in 1930 (WVDOH Annual Report) as new primary routing, running from WV 39 Fenwick to WV 15 (now WV 55) Craigsville.
In 1938, WVDOH studied requesting replacing all of WV 94 with an unspecified US route number. It is unclear if they formally requested this or not but it obviously did not happen. In 1941, WV 94 was renumbered as part of WV 20. Today it is WV 20-55.
WV 94 #3: Appeared about 1968 as new construction from I-64 through Huntington and across a new Ohio River bridge. However, a 1967 aerial view shows the road open from I-64 to Msdison Ave first. I do not know if this segment was WV 94 from the getgo or not. In October 1978 (AASHTO), WV 94 was redesignated as part of US 52.
