WV 522: Appeared about 1941 as a renumbering of WV 38 from the Virginia State line through Berkeley Springs to the Maryland State Line at Hancock MD.
WV 522 was renumbered as US 522 about 1944. It remains so today except in Berkeley Springs it cut west on Fairfax St to Wilkes Ave (still original concrete!) which used to continue north out to current US 522 at roughly Jimtown Rd. I don't have any state or county maps from this narrow timeframe, but this appeared on Virginia State Officials and Gen Drafting maps. This was the highest numbered state route during its existence.
