In 1927 or 1928 (per official route log), TN 34 was extended southwest replacing US 70 to the new US 70 alignment (now Carter School Rd) in Trentville.
In 1929, TN 34 was removed from Philippi Church Rd west of I-81
Also in 1929, TN 34 was placed on Blue Springs Pkwy and removed from N Mohawk Rd/Pottertown Rd; Pecan Ridge Rd; Main St through Mosheim; Emerald Rd; Baughard Hill Rd; Mt Pleasant Cir; Old Knoxville Hwy to Greeneville
In 1930, TN 34 was removed from Watauga St and Oakland Ave in Johnson City, plus the lengthy Austin Springs Rd and Mountain View Rd through Piney Flats, plus Old Elizabethton Hwy and Carter St into Bluff City ; Main St and Fleming Dr within Bluff City (these last two sections briefly remained part of US 19E/TN 37). TN 34 was placed on Roan St leaving Johnson City, then current US 11E beyond Piney Flats, then old TN 44 and current TN 44 into Bluff City.
In 1931 or 1932, TN 34 was extended southwest replacing TN 9 (rerouted) to Knoxville, ending at Chesnut/Magnolia intersection.
By 1934, TN 34 was removed from Avoca Dr in southwestern Bristol
About 1935, TN 34 west was truncated back to current US 25W-70 Trentville, leaving behind Strawberry Plains Pike, Boyds Bridge Pike, Biddle St and S. Chestnut St.

Also about 1935, TN 34 was removed from E Main St, Old Jonesborough Hwy and Walnut St from Jonesborough to Johnson City. TN 34 instead used Market St to Wautauga St to Roan Ave
By 1936, TN 34 was removed from Old Tusculum Rd west of Tusculum.
About 1939, TN 34 was removed from Old US Hwy 11E through Alpha, plus a little of what us now TN 160-342.
In 1942, TN 34's west end was moved to the current interchange with US 25W-70, leaving behind Strawberry Plains Pike; also TN 34 was removed from abandoned routing/Old Strawberry Plains Pike just west of the Jefferson County line.
In 1949, TN 34 was removed from Old Andrew Johnson Hwy through New Market and Jefferson City, plus removed from East Old Andrew Johnson Rd near the Hamblen County line
Also around 1949, TN 34 was removed from Arnold Way/Pemberton Rd plus Old Shady Rd/abandoned alignment/Baines Dr in Holston Valley; TN 34 was also given its modern South Holston Lake routing, leaving behind an extended TN 44, Knob Park Rd, underwater routing southeast, Jacob Park Rd where it leaves an arm of the lake, a little Denton Valley Rd, and abandoned routing s-se back to current US 421 at Jacks Corner.

In 1952, TN 34 was removed from the lengthy Heritage Rd/Old SR 34/present TN 353 through Limestone and Telford to Jonesborough. TN 34 entered Jonesborough via Persimmon Ridge Rd.
Also in 1952, TN 34 was put on one-way splits in Bristol using 4th St NB (now Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Dr) and 5th St SB.
In 1954, TN 34 was removed from Old Andrew Johnson Hwy through Strawberry Plains and Hodges.
Also in 1954, TN 34 was placed on the new US 421 bypass of Mountain City leaving behind TN 91 Main St plus Church St (now both roads are TN 418); TN 34 was also removed from Crossroads Dr between Mountain City and just east of TN 167
TN 34 was removed from the Market/Main one-way pair (became TN 91) and Roan St through central Jonhnson City and instead utilized, John Exum Pkwy which was referred to as TN 34 Byp in the 1960 and 1962 route logs.

Between 1955-63, TN 34 was removed from W Main St in Morristown and instead used West 1st North St to Daisy St back to E. Main.
Between 1965-69, TN 34 was moved to the Bristol Bypass and a one-way pair using State St WB and Shelby St/4th St EB, replacing TN 34 Byp. By the early 1970s, TN 34 was removed from State St between Volunteer Pkwy and MLK Jr Blvd. Instead it left Volunteer Pkwy at Anderson to reach MLK Jr Blvd north back to State St. Volunteer Pkwy north of Anderson became part of TN 1.
Between 1975-81, TN 34 was removed from TN 107 (now Erwin Hwy) and Sam Doak Dr through Tusculum.
In 1977, TN 34 was given its bypass of Hillcrest and Bluff City, leaving behind US 19E (now old TN 44) to Hillcrest and TN 44 to Bluff City and TN 37 (now TN 390 and abandoned routing around the TN 394 interchange) north of Bluff City

In 1983, TN 34 was placed on the Greenville Bypass, replacing TN 34 Byp. The route through Greeneville became US 11E Bus.
Also in 1983, TN 34 was removed from the Market/Main one-way pair (became TN 91) and Roan St through central Jonhnson City and instead replaced TN 34 Byp on John Exum Pkwy.
In 1985, TN 34 was removed from Bristol Caverns Hwy east of Bristol (now TN 435).
About 2008, TN 34 was removed from MLK Jr Blvd, State St and Pennsylvania Ave (became TN 473 for a time) in Bristol to instead use the new Anderson St bridge.

Posting: TN 34 is completely unposted, though it was posted as a primary route on Anderson St between US 11E-19 and MLK Jr Blvd prior to US 421 being added to this stretch about 2011.

Comment: TN 34 paired with US 11E is still a pretty major corridor even after interstate 81 was completed
TN 34 between S. Holston Lake and Mountain City is quite gnarly and has not seen any alignment changes back to at least 1935.
For the times TN 34 used State St in Bristol, TN 34 WB was in Virginia (likewise, VA 76 EB was in Tennessee).
