Creation: Approved by AASHTO in 1929 as an addition to US 70 from Knoxville to Trentville and a replacement for US 511 from Trentville to Bristol. Tennessee had already dropped the US 511 designation by the end of 1927 and AASHO accepted their belated request to do this in 1929.
US 70 and US 511 from Knoxville to Bristol via Morristown and Johnson City

US 11E from Knoxville to Bristol via Morristown and Johnson City
In 1930, US 11E was removed from Watauga St and Oakland Ave in Johnson City, plus the lengthy Austin Springs Rd and Mountain View Rd through Piney Flats, plus Old Elizabethton Hwy and Carter St into Bluff City ; Main St and Fleming Dr within Bluff City (these last two sections briefly remained part of US 19E/TN 37). US 11E was placed on Roan St leaving Johnson City, then current US 11E beyond Piney Flats, then old TN 44 and current TN 44 into Bluff City.
By 1934, US 11E was removed from Avoca Dr in southwestern Bristol
In 1934, AASHO took away the 11E designation by removing TN 34 from the US route system from Knoxville to Greeneville and renumbering the rest as US 411. At least one prominent commercial map maker did this. However, Tennessee never deposted US 11E and did not add US 411 to the Greeneville-Bristol segment until 1952.
AASHO's dream come true - no US 11E
1935 Gen Draft
About 1935, US 11E south was rerouted at Trentville to follow the newer US 70 route to Knoxville and meeting US 11-11W at today's Holston Dr/Martin Luther King Jr Ave. The original route had used Strawberry Plains Pike, Boyds Bridge Pike, Biddle St and S. Chestnut St to end at Magnolia Ave.
Also about 1935, US 11E was removed from E Main St, Old Jonesborough Hwy and Walnut St from Jonesborough to Johnson City. US 11E instead used Market St to Wautauga St to Roan Ave
By 1936, US 11E was removed from Old Tusculum Rd west of Tusculum.
About 1939, US 11E was removed from Old US Hwy 11E through Alpha, plus a little of what us now TN 160-342.
In 1942, US 11E was rerouted at Trentville to the current interchange with US 25W-70, leaving behind Strawberry Plains Pike and a bit of US 25W-70; also US 11E was removed from abandoned routing/Old Strawberry Plains Pike just west of the Jefferson County line.
In 1949, US 11E was removed from Old Andrew Johnson Hwy through New Market and Jefferson City, plus removed from East Old Andrew Johnson Rd near the Hamblen County line
In 1952, AASHO finally officially re-added US 11E back to the official US route system.
Also in 1952, US 11E was removed from the lengthy Heritage Rd/Old SR 34/present TN 353 through Limestone and Telford to Jonesborough. TN 34 entered Jonesborough via Persimmon Ridge Rd.

Between 1965-69, US 19 was moved to the Bristol Bypass and a one-way pair using State St WB and Shelby St/4th St EB, replacing TN 34 Byp. The old route used Bluff City Hwy, Edgemont Ave, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Alabama Ave (no longer connects to), one way pair of 4th (now part of MLK Jr Dr)/5th Ave and State St
In 1966, US 11E was removed from Daisy St/E. Main St/Mornigside Dr and placed on E. 1st North St east out of Morristown
